The Good Earth - Books II #1 or #2?

I've republished the old image and added a new image based on your expert advice. So now, I'm asking you, please, compare the two and tell me which you like best and why. Your feedback is so valuable to me and I appreciate every word.

I want to thank Sue of Sacred Circle Mandalas for giving the "you make my day" award to me. She makes my day too, every time I see one of her beautiful mandalas. Plus, she is just a very kind and giving person who is fun to know and is the best teacher via her photoshop tutorials. The latest is about patterns in CS3 so check it out here. I'll be passing this award on soon.

my favourite is the top one, I like the framed portrait. The colours from the land are more intense.

Sorry I deleted my comment because I got muddled. I like both in different ways. I like her in the photograph frame, it gives it a collagey feel of souvenirs and memorabilia. I find the writing difficult to read in the lower picture, though I like the way it is integrated into the landscape and I like the pen and paper, I think I prefer them on the table. I prefer the picture in the typewriter - it looks empty in the other one. Maybe if there was a sheet of paper in the typewriter? So they give me different feelings, the top one is somehow more emotional and the lower one is somehow cleverer. For me.

Hi Bobbie,

Oh dear ... I know I was one of the ones who gave advice ... but I like #1 better too. I like the the composition (structure) of the first one, the table, framed picture ...

I loved it all but just the book I was wondering about ... I can see I was not clear in my feedback - so sorry!!

I wonder if ... here I go again ... if you can make the book just a little more transluscent without losing that gorgeous yellow? My thought was to try to integrate the book in ... just a hair more.

But trust your heart .. I don't want to be sending you all over the place ...

hugs,

hmmm... i hope this will teach us not to fudge with another artist's vision.

Once you re-interpreted to "please your public", your earlier visual became appreciated for what it was.

I also like #1 better, and I still feel that it's because you made Pearl S. Buck's own journey through life and her talent as a writer the conceptual object here.

I like the yellow very much (yellow brick road and all that!), I love the teapot and the typewriter. I've become attached to it, and fond of it.

I like them both! The colours are warm and clear. Both are inviting and soft. They are different yet the same because they still have the same qualities as each other.
You could probably end up with 100 different versions if you kept playing...all unique yet the same! What matters most is that YOU like it:)

Coucou Bobbie,
J'aime bien le deuxième, que je trouve plus léger. La frise de mots est très réussie.
J'aurais peut-être conservé le sous-main pour caler les différents éléments (mais ce n'est que mon humble avis ;))

My intent is not to mess with your vision....first of all the bottom newer image loks muchn better when clicked on than when small - once enlarged the details in the landscape carry more weight.

The image without the yellow mat under the typewriter is a bit bare - I like the yellow mat framing the bottom of the image - is places the items in a plane other than settling into the landscape.

The type across the screen is very nice - the book was fine also.

I prefer the new "peasant" - the other one looked like one form a wood block print and this new one is more in balance with the other elements.

Overall, I prefer your origianl design, in part because of the matt. I am not an art critic and have not played one on TV, yet.

I do admire your courage for asking for critiques. You are one cool great grand mama.

I would like to see what it looks like to have the yellow mat added to the bottom picture, and make the lettering bolder - font color probably.

But, Bobbie, you know best. I am merely a peasant behind an ox and I am not looking at the prettiest part of the ox, most of the time.

I so appreciate these comments and have learned a lot from them and from the ones on the original post. They opened my mind to other possibilities and ways of doing things which helps me grow. Thank you all!

Your pictures are always a delight and should trust your own vision!

I don't know why I said that about the line round the picture, as everyone seems to really like it! Just don't any of my advice in the future, or maybe the opposite lol

I think you should always go with your instincts, because your instincts point you in the right direction and in this case that is image number one. I think you had it almost right from the start and that you didn't need to do such a drastic remake. So, go back to that image, Bobby and play with it if you feel that you are not quite happy with it. I like it the way it is and think you should leave it that way.
